Emerging Markets

Mr. Trent Eddy

Trent Eddy is a founding partner of Emerging Markets Group Holding and its first operating business, Emerging Markets Consulting (EMC), for which he has had responsibility for the firm’s corporate and business development, financing and expansion strategy. During his time in this role, the firm launched in-country operations in Laos, established its current holding company structure in Singapore and raised additional growth capital from international investors.

Within EMC, Trent led and contributed to a number of projects and acted as an advisor on much of the firm’s work. He led the analysis on market entry strategy and project feasibility studies in the Cambodian healthcare and telecoms sectors and provided framework analytical inputs on EMC’s business consulting projects.

In the private sector development arena, he has been engaged as an individual advisor on donors’ private sector strategy for Cambodia and worked on trade facilitation reform strategy as input to the first World Bank Investment Climate Assessment for Cambodia and subsequent mapping and diagnostic exercises. He supported EMC’s 2010 work on understanding foreign investor perceptions of Cambodia and oversaw provincial level investment promotion work with USAID’s Cambodia MSME program.

At EMI, Trent has particular responsibility for portfolio management, the Business Improvement Facility and the Fund’s Social and Environmental Management System (SEMS). Building upon his consulting experience, Trent’s emphasis at EMI is on ensuring that the Fund’s portfolio companies develop long-term value creation strategy. He also guided the establishment of the Business Improvement Facility that helps portfolio companies to improve their financial performance and their governance, through the application of third party specialist expertise. Trent designed the Fund’s SEMS to ensure both Fund and portfolio companies comply with its commitments in this regard. Trent is the Fund’s SEMS Officer and jointly oversees the financial administration of the Fund. Trent also shares the task of plotting the future development of our funds in the region.

Prior to establishing EMGH, Trent was Managing Director of Phnom Penh-based Strategic Management Solutions, where he was responsible for strategy, business development, recruitment and project execution across the breadth of the business’ activities - these spanned traditional business consulting, human resource development and market research activities.

Before moving to Cambodia, Trent’s consulting work at Bain & Company covered engagements in Australia, South Africa and London where he served clients in the airline, telecommunications, financial services, defence and government sectors, among others. His client experience at Bain included private equity due diligence in the direct mail and printing ink businesses, acquisition analysis for a specialty chemicals firm, customer service process improvement for a South African bank, new product profitability modelling for a life insurance company and revenue density modelling for an Australian telecommunications carrier.

Trent holds an MA in Economics from Cambridge University, and an MSc in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from London School of Economics. He holds an Australian Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training. He is an Australian national and has resided and invested in Cambodia for over a decade.
